Mario Luiz Thompson was born in 1945, in the city of São Paulo. He started
his career in 1967, as journalist of the magazine Veja. At that time, he
already photographed shows of Brazilian Popular Music for the sheer fun
of it. It was in 1973 that a statement made by Gilberto Gil motivated a
complete change in his professional life. "There are many ways to
make music, I prefer all of them" He then became one of the most requested
photographers of the Brazilian music scenario. His work has yielded innumerable
record covers and a collection of more than a 100.000 photos, which is
presently being preserved and divulged by the project "Projeto
Bem Te Vi MPB".
