Gal Costa is one of the greatest and most popular singers of modern Brazilian music. Heiress of the bossa nova contained interpretation, she made a style that naturally mixes technique and charm, refinement and emotion. But she didn't leave off assimilating aspects of typical ways of singing other genres; like rock, for example. Born in Salvador, Bahia, in 1945, in the 60's Gal took part of Tropicalismo, a movement created by the group from Bahia and made up of Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil and her. Her first big success, "Baby", dates from this period.

Today, with more than twenty albums, she achieved a long list of hits, like "Divino maravilhoso" (Divine and Marvelous), "Meu nome é Gal" (My name is Gal), "London London", "Índia", "Força estranha" (Strange force) and "Folhetim". Always trying to accompany the tendencies of the moment, Gal has been through many national and foreign genres. Among the composers she sings, apart from those already mentioned, are those consecrated in MPB, such as Tom Jobim, Chico Buarque and Jorge Ben Jor.
